Mabel & Raymond Howerton
Mabel Howerton, 90, of Jonesboro, formerly of Haynes, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at St. Bernard Hospital, Jonesboro, AR.
Mabel was born in 1914 at the family plantation near Haynes, AR; the daughter of William Thomas Cox and Alice Bullard. She married ____ Verhoeven about 1934 and to this marriage a son, Arnold, was born. Mabel's husband was killed early in WWII while serving as a Lieutenant in the Army.
In 1964 she married Raymond Howerton.
She was a teacher and member of St.
Andrew's Episcopal Church in Marianna. She was also a member of
the Order of Eastern Star and Marianna Country Club.
Survivors include a son, Arnold Verhoeven of Salesville; three
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Raymond Howerton, and her parents, William
Thomas Cox and Alice Bullard Cox.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City. AR.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN; Arkansas Children's Hospital, Little Rock, AR; or the Paragould, AR Children's Home.
