HOWERTON, CLAYTON - age 90, passed away September 13, 2001 in Springfield, Ohio. He was the fifth of eleven children of L.B. and Catherine Howerton. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ada Tucker and Rose Garrett; brothers, Hubert, Clyde, Tom, Woodrow, Charles, Eugene and Lawrence; daughters, Linda Howerton and Janice Sharp and son, Clayton Edward Howerton. Survived by daughters, Polly Jordan, Barbara Britton, Carol Rowe, Sandra Joslin, Marjorie Struziuski and Ada Pratt; sons, Bruce Howerton and Paul Howerton and a brother, Glenn Howerton of Halls. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He was cremated and his remains were sent to Knoxville, TN to be buried next to his parents in Clapps Chapel Cemetery. A graveside memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2001 at Clapps Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Chris Howerton (Claytons grandson) officiating. Mynatts Funeral Home in Knoxville, TN was in charge of arrangements for the memorial service.
According to the dates, he lacked a few days being 90 when he died. But both obits (the one in the Ohio newspaper and the one in the Tennessee newspaper) show his age to be 90.
